Black Author wins The Matrix Copyright Infringement Case (True or False)

advertisement

A six-year dispute has ended involving Sophia Stewart, the Wachowski Brothers, Joel Silver and Warner Brothers. Stewart's allegations, involving copyright infringement and racketeering, were received and acknowledged by the Central District of California, Judge Margaret Morrow presiding.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

But is this a settlement, or was there a finding of facts? This article is oddly reticent on that issue.

Ms. Stewart's theory about lack of press coverage leaves me a bit skeptical. This would actually be a major news story, and I'd expect it to be covered by the L.A. Times and Variety, among other sources.

Anyway, if she has successfully defended her intellectual property rights, then this is surely a victory. Ka-ching!

More fiction in the plagiarism claim than in the book, was one reviewers comments of "The Third Eye" another wrote "I am really dissapointed that I paid $100 +S/H for this book which took way over a year to get to me... only to find out it has almost nothing in common with the matrix."

The story is old False news...

Hetep and Respect Sesh Marcia L. McNair, Thanks for the 411 on the source of the Matrix and the forces of Ma'at restoring balance to the Third Eye in nature. Now let me add my Cultural Health two cents.

    Cultural Literacy Minute: I

"...Sophia, the Greek goddess of wisdom has been referenced many times in speculation about Stewart. In one book about the Goddess Sophia, it reads, 'The black goddess is the mistress of web creation spun in her divine matrix.'..."

It is interesting to note that the English word philosophy is a composite of an African and European word. The Greeks had no concept of philosophy in recorded history until after their studies in Classical African Civilization, Kemet (Ancient Egypt). The Greeks record their ancient concept of love as the word Philos. They had no word for the concept of wisdom, so they adapted the African Goddess of Wisdom Sophia. This gave raise to their ability to express the African concept of the love of wisdom (Ti-huti) as Philosophia or as we say it today Philosophy.

So it is interesting to note, that in the end, it was Sophia Steward who was the wisdom of The Matrix. Wow! the shinny ones (ancestors) are proud.

Hetep and Respect Smiling Jack, you are not alone.

'The reason you have not seen any of this in the media is because Warner Brothers parent company is AOL-Time Warner.... this GIANT owns 95 percent of the media... let me give you a clue as to what they own in the media business... New York Times papers/magazines, LA Times papers/magazines, People Magazine, CNN news, Extra, Celebrity Justice, Entertainment Tonight, HBO, New Line Cinema, DreamWorks, Newsweek, Village Roadshow and many, many more! They are not going to report on themselves. They have been suppressing my case for years.'

I is sort of like expecting the Medical Industrial Complex (MediPlex), to spread the word about the glorious new Kennedy Health Care Reform that is coming. In the old days you and I still would not know about it and Sophia would not have won the case. But we have the internet and MSNBC full spectrum news.

    Newsvine: get smarter here.

Now the question is how much will she get paid?

Yes, that's true. I was going to say that I actually have heard about numerous other copyright infringement cases, I tend to follow them. Which made it that much more surprising that a case which has been going for so very long, involving some of the most commercially successful movies ever made, has completely escaped my attention.

I'd really like to see AOL Time-Warner broken up, or at least get more competition.

Hetep The Spirit, welcome to the Vine, speak up, help our readers understand your true "colors".

    I thought liberals were racist-free

RACE ALERT: you get the award for being the first to bring up "race" in this discussion which, is not about "race". Sophia says it is about $$$. Days pay for a days work.

Cultural Literacy Minute (CLM): There is one race, the human race, and many ethnic groups.

except in the case of conservative blacks

Hmm, is this guilt? I notice that you are waring a mask and pointing guns are you some new form of Cultural thief? What is your ethnicity? I am a Democrat. Are you a Republican?

That is an interesting link you posted. The Democratic party before the sixties had most of America's anti-humanists. The low numbers of AA's in that party reflected this reality. I noticed that you link to Alan Keyes and Project 21. Are you and Alan Keyes fan? Would you like to see Alan Keyes as President?

Let me guess. You were on the panel who decided to give the Nobel to Obama. In the reply at the top of the thread, Brenda said, "I am so happy for this woman because so many things have been stolen from blacks and claimed ." Give the award to her, not to me. Does it involve cash, or just disdain?

I am neither a democrat, nor a Republican. I believe democrats hold blacks in chains of ideology just as surely as they used to hold them in chains of iron. I have broken free of the democrat plantation. And I believe Republicans no longer stand for anything as they did when they ended slavery and smashed segregation.

No, I am not an Alen Keyes "fan," and no, I would not care to see him as president. But I do admire men -- particularly black men -- who have a moral compass and who are not afraid to stand up and clearly state their principles.

I find it interesting that this discussion has become about me. Why is it that discussions with democrats always end in personal attacks? Is the only way you can build yourself up by attempting to tear others down?

Truths About Liberals #3. You can always tell what liberals are up to by what they accuse conservatives of doing.

I do not see the word "race" or racist in your Brenda quote which, is why you get the award.

As a matter of Cultural Health, I repeat.

Cultural Literacy Minute (CLM): There is one race, the human race, and many ethnic groups.

Cultural Poisoning causes many to buy into concepts that are not connected in a positive manor to reality.

I believe Republicans no longer stand for anything as they did when they ended slavery and smashed segregation.

    I agree.

No, I am not an Alen Keyes "fan,"

It is good to know that their is some sanity in the world.

who have a moral compass and who are not afraid to stand up and clearly state their principles.

We may agree, it depends on who's compass you are using.

I find it interesting that this discussion has become about me.

The discussion is not about you, it is about The Matrix and who did or did not write it.

Why is it that discussions with democrats always end in personal attacks?

I have not attacked you, I do not know you. You have on a mask and seem to be in the cyber-closet. I simply asked you for more information, so that my readers and I can better understand who we are hearing from.

I will repeat the most important Cultural Health question in case you missed it.

    What is your ethnicity?

As a matter of Cultural integrity, this is generally a fairly easy question for most readers to answer here in America. (I assume you are an American here in America - no info in your profile pls correct me if I am in error.)

I don't know what you guys are smoking, but I personally have never considered someone being happy for the successes of their race to be racist. When the local Irish community has a party and talks about their history in glowing terms, I don't feel any desire to run out and protest. I usually just have a beer with them.

And when a black person is proud of another black person's accomplishments, I don't consider it a problem.

You guys are so intent on calling people racist's, you've damaged your cognitive processes. You simply can't think clearly anymore.

Thanks for this terrific seed and the news it represents, Aunk. I heard about the case a couple of years ago but did not know its status. I hope that Ms. Stewart clips the infringers for massive bucks, the loss of which is the only thing that might give pause to predators who would steal and make money from the someone else's labor and creativity. I've always been struck by the similarities between the Matrix and Terminator series - machines take over, humans take back under the leadership of a Messiah figure. That the genesis of these two bodies of work would come from the same woman isn't such a surprise when you think about it.

It is odd that she included The Terminator in her suit, as Harlan Ellison successfully sued the movies's production company for infringement of two of his Outer Limits stories from the original series. Perhaps Mr. Ellison could bring suit against Ms. Stewart for her infringement with The Third Eye ;-)
