In Brazil, 6 Politicians Change Their Name to 'Barack Obama'

advertisement

Welcome to Obama-mania, Brazil-style. Few countries have embraced the idea of the US's first black president as enthusiastically as Brazil. Due to a quirk of Brazilian law, candidates are allowed to run under the name of their choice. As a result, at least six Brazilian politicians have officially renamed themselves "Barack Obama"

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Cultural Literacy Minute: there are more then 100 million African Brazilians in Brazil. Brazil has more then four times the number of Africans Brazilians, as we have African Americans in America.

With Obama and Joe heading up TeamAmerica, we stand the best chance of dramatically improving our relations with the Global South.

If the only reason the relations improve is because of race, then I would rather they don't improve.

Hetep and Respect CMNews, If we are fortunate enough to see our relationship to the Global South take a turn for the better, it will be because TeamAmerica shows respect for other nations, Ethnicities and cultures.

Cultural Literacy Minute: There is one race, the human race and many ethnic groups.
